DARE
TO LEAD
Dare to Lead is a Commonwealth funded, national project with a focus on improving
educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This
page provides a wealth of examples of some successful strategies that other schools
have used to target attendance, literacy, engaging community, completion, curriculum,
transitions, and practice. Many of these case studies feature the central role
that the IEW played in the successful management of the project.

STAFF MATTERS
The Staff Matters website resource provides information about and
ideas for development for staff on their own health and wellbeing
in the educational workplace. This particular link will take you
to their section on Indigenous Education Workers. There are some
useful topics including information on engaging community and some
of the issues that may cause day-to-day difficulties for IEWs.

WHAT WORKS
The What Works site provides advice and information about how improvement
can be achieved and examples of contemporary cases where this has
occurred. It is designed to help teachers and administrators working
in education and training TAKE ACTION. This particular link will
take you through to some useful case studies about IEWs in schools
from all around Australia. You may be surprised to find out just
how many IEWs there are doing similar things to you!

Research
“Hidden Treasures: Recognising the
Value of Indigenous Educators”
- This article, written by Mike Winkler of Dare To Lead, provides
a solid background on some of the challenges and opportunities faced
by IEWs nationally. The article appeared in Education Horizons, a
nationally circulated education journal.
